Drinking water for the state of Rhode Island comes from a network of rivers and reservoirs throughout the state. The largest inland body of water in the state is the Scituate Reservoir, which has a surface area of 5.3 square miles. Between it and its six tributary reservoirs, the total surface area makes up 7.2 square miles and provides drinking water to more than 60% of the state.
